Signal Ridge Vineyard/Pinot Noir And Zinfandel/

We recently traveled into the great Anderson Valley. We stopped off and tasted the wines of Signal Ridge. You will love these wines and the story. In 1999, Roger Scommegna planted a small vineyard on top of Cold Spring Mountain, 9 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, in the Mendocino Ridge appellation. Overlooking picturesque Anderson Valley at an elevation of 2,642 feet, The Signal Ridge Vineyard is the highest altitude vineyard in all of Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa counties. This challenging ridgetop terroir produces unique high end singular fruit. Signal Ridge wines are created through the teamwork, trust and cooperation connecting the Scommegna family and Anderson Valley. We will feature the zinfandel and Pinot Noir first/Let's check out the tasting notes and then on to our great feature. The Signal Ridge 2013 single-vineyard Pinot Noir was made with 20% whole cluster press. On the nose, hazelnut biscotti, pepper mélange and tobacco elements meander toward earthy black cherry and cocoa flavors in the mid-palette as soft supple tannins dance with violet floral notes in a smooth lingering finish. 13.7 % The Signal Ridge 2014 Zinfandel showcases our 4 acres of dry farmed, high-altitude, coastal zinfandel vines in the Mendocino Ridge AVA. As the spice cabinet of this wine opens, aromas of anise, cacao and pipe tobacco upstage a black cherry note. Flavors of leather, black pepper and cassis mingle with relaxed tannins like old friends reuniting. 13.8% Winemaker Nicole Scommegna and Assistant Winemaker Stephanie Rivin employ both hard-earned expertise and good-humored trial and error to produce the perfect end product. Fruit from each vineyard is crushed, fermented and aged separately before going through blending trials to find the right recipe for each wine. Let's pour a glass of each wine,as all this talk about food and wine has made me hungry!Cheers! Click here and join us as we enjoy the wines of Signal Ridge Vineyard.
