After visiting "The Gorge",I headed toward the city of Seattle.I stayed at the Renaissance hotel,and after checking in....I headed down to Salty's On Alki.This restaurant sits on Alki Beach looking back at the city over the bay.A table at this restaurant includes one of the best views known to man and beast!The chef is a great friend of mine and is always looking to improve a perfect menu.That's where I come into the scene...someone has to try ALL the new dishes and sometimes twice.This is another full half hour feature with Salty's and the great wines of Washington state. Traveling out of Portland Oregon and heading east.I crossed over to the Washington side of this beautiful river and have discovered two amazing wineries!Maryhill winery and Casecade Cliffs Winery.This features the wines of Maryhill winery.I stayed at the Celilo Inn and had a truly great meal at the highway house.There are concerts and events all summer long at Maryhill winery and Craig and Vicky Leuthold have taken this small winery now produce some of the best wines from the great state of Washington.Starting out at a few thousand cases they now produce close to 80,000 cases!I loved the Highway house.!As you walk in you feel as you are being seated at a very fine neighbor's house for a gourmet meal!I spent a very comfortable night at the Celilo Inn which completed a special couple days in this great area! Meritage Resort and Spa/Spa Weekend!!/

I recently spent a weekend at the Meritage resort and Spa,located in the great Napa Valley. The Spa director Victoria suggested three of the packages,and after careful thought...I decided to stay an extra day and do all three treatments.The spa is located in an 18000 square foot cave.The cave is just a short walk from your room, which is very convenient, especially after your treatments.The first day's treatments were incredible and we enjoyed dinner at the beautiful restaurant,"Siena"! Pierre Birebent has a french wine making back ground and many premiere fruit sources.Here we have three features with chardonnay,Seta,and their estate Cabernet.All these wines are paired up perfectly with the cuisine of chef Greg Elliott of Brannan's Grill.Brannan's Grill is located in Calistoga at the north end of the Napa Valley.Calistoga is a great destination with world class wineries ,restaurants and spas. There are two features here one with the Seta and the chardonnay.The second feature is the Cabernet feature.These wines are made well.but this winery is a must stop to AVOID!The lady that runs the tasting room has gone through dozens of employees and every one off them will tell horror stories of a winery run by people that have little to zero idea what they are doing!The wines and tasting are way over priced and why would anyone want to put up with incompetent staff.In most cases,it's not the staff's fault.They are always brand new,and ever changing.It seems the winery is just a place to not visit or work at.Life is too short and the Napa Valley is an amazing place filled with great stops,but this is a MUST to AVOID!Brannan's yes,Signorello zero!/NO!
