Sonoma County Wines With Rodney Strong Vineyards

We have been busy!! I have traveling into the town of Healdsburg and recently enjoyed some time with wine maker Greg Morthole at Rodney Strong Vineyards! We have three great new features to share with you and will cover the Pinot Noirs ,Malbecs and a few surprises.Let's check out the website and a few notes on a couple of the wines. We have three new links and please click on the links at the bottom of this feature and join Grag and I as we taste our way thru the great wines of Rodney Strong Vineyards. We have Malbecs and Pinot Noirs to start with. What started with Rod’s vision over 60 years segued to an almost four-decade long career of Winemaker Emeritus Rick Sayre at Rodney Strong. Rick passed the baton in 2018 to current Director of Winemaking Justin Seidenfeld, who today leads the passionate winemaking team that creates critically acclaimed wines vintage after vintage with an eye towards the future. That future is led by innovative new products like ROWEN Wine Company, the 15-year passion project on our remote and rugged Cooley Ranch Vineyard. For over 30 years, RSWE has flourished under the leadership of the Klein Family, 4th generation California farmers. The Klein family is committed to protecting and preserving the environment in both the vineyards and at the winery through sustainable farming and winemaking. The history of Rodney Strong Vineyards has roots that stretch back more than 100 years; a tale of families in pursuit of an abiding passion: wine. Greg Morthole is a part of a very talentled wine making team. Tom Klien is part of this great team. A fourth generation California farmer, Tom earned a business degree from Stanford and spent the first part of his career as a management consultant at the San Francisco office of the prestigious global management firm McKinsey & Company. One project during this time was evaluating a small winery in the Russian River Valley called Rodney Strong Vineyards and, in a chance meeting, he was introduced to founder Rod Strong and winemaker Rick Sayre. Already developing an interest in wine, this encounter planted a seed that would grow into a lifelong passion. First let's look at the Malbec. a great wine and a new favorite for many people including myself. Our Reserve wines are the result of a careful blend of individual lots from meticulously farmed sections of some of the very best vineyards in Alexander Valley and in the mountains north of Lake Sonoma. Created in our small lot Artisan Cellar, Winemaker Justin Seidenfeld employs techniques such as cluster pre-sorting and extended maceration. With small tanks and equipment sized for the most discriminating vineyard selection process, our cellar is state of-the-art and represents the Klein family commitment to producing the finest wines possible. For our 2018 Reserve Malbec, select areas within each vineyard are hand harvested, fermented separately and aged in the finest French oak. After aging, each lot is tasted and graded and only the best are considered. The blend is then assembled, and the wine is aged 24 months before bottling. Rod Strong was among the first modern wine pioneers with a vision to plant Pinot Noir in the Russian River Valley. In 1968, he planted our heritage River East Vineyard in the alluvial clay-loam soils adjacent to the winery in Healdsburg. Today the Russian River Valley is well established as one of the premier Pinot Noir growing regions in the world, and we continue to rely on the original River East Vineyard as a core contributor to our estate vineyard bottling. We have a couple other wines in our new features, but we will let you discover the great website of Rodney Strong Vineyards.
