Davis Bynum Pinot Noir/Greg Morthole/Sonoma County

We have been enjoying the wines of Davis Bynum. We have two great expressions of Pinot Noir from Sonoma county.A world class growing region, and the home of some of the best Pinot Noirs on the planet. Join me as we check out the tasting notes on these 2 Pinots and some of the vast history of Davis Bynum. Davis Bynum’s passion is in the land, and nowhere is that more apparent than in our Pinot Noir Clonal Selections. Depending on the vintage, the winemaker may choose to bottle a small amount of a single clone Pinot Noir to showcase the distinctive combination of vineyard, soil, season, and clone — a unique opportunity for a truly singular experience. Out of the nine diff erent Pinot Noir clones planted at Jane’s Vineyard, we have a few perennial favorites. One is the clone 115, which always impresses us with its delicious red fruit and wild rose petal aromas and fl avors. We use this clone as part of the blend for our Jane’s Vineyard Pinot Noir, but also decided to keep a small production on the side for those who enjoy classic Russian River Pinot Noir at its best. Winemaking with a light hand, and timely and deliberate choices allow us to cra the wine in a style that compliments what the vineyard and vintage give us. We ferment our wines with native yeasts, which come in on the grapes from the vineyard. e native yeasts eventually give way to other yeasts that finish the fermentation and give the wine extra complexity. The 2013 Dijon Clone 115 Pinot Noir was aged in French oak, 44% new, from a small variety of coopers. TASTE PROFILE The 2013 Dijon Clone 115 Pinot Noir has a medium-deep red hue with cherry, black raspberry, rose petal and tea aromas. is wine has a beautiful acid balanced mouthfeel with wild raspberries and strawberries. The lush savory minerality on the palate is balanced nicely with a touch of mocha and cinnamon spice on the fi nish. Pair this Pinot Noir with roasted root vegetables, seared salmon or roasted duck with a raspberry, plum chutney. STYLE We selected a small lot of our Pinot Noir Dijon clone 777 to bottle separately this vintage. Always one of our favorite clones, the 777 shows darker fruit characteristics than the other clones planted at Jane’s Vineyard, with exceptional balance and a pinch of spice for a complex finish, and we were in love.
