Patz and Hall /New Releases/Hudson Vineyard/Dutton Ranch/2014 Chardonnay
I have great news and I have more great news!We are opening new Chardonnays from Patz and Hall! The Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay comes from a vineyard established in the early 80's.This wine comes from a prize block of this great vineyard.Patz and Hall has made this wine since 2005 This vintage only produced 16 barrells.James Hall and Donald Patz only make the best wines ,and that takes great fruit sourcing. This is a prime example of why Patz and Hall are producing some of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the planet.I don't know if you have noticed...BUT this is a big planet!Just ask Donald Patz,he travels the world with these incredible wines! Let's check out the tasting notes on these two Chardonnays. Once again, Hudson Vineyard has yielded a spectacular wine with a decadent fruit nose highlighting pear, green apple, honey and dried pineapple. Beneath these pure, lifted aromas, layers of hazelnut, almond, distant campfire and fresh-brewed coffee offer a sophisticated counterpoint to the vibrant fruit. Both rich and refreshing on the palate, flavors of peach and pineapple are supported by a lovely balance between coursing acidity and a supple mouthcoating quality. From its warm, evocative aromas to its voluminous texture and flowing richness, this is a potent expression of Hudson Vineyard. Scents of guava, peach, roast hazelnut, clove and summer melon rise from the glass, underscored by hints of molasses and sugar cookies. On the creamy palate, melon flavors are wrapped in layers of coffee and caramel that persist to a long, lingering finish. Though this is perhaps the most rich and mouth coating of our 2012 Chardonnays, a streak of acidity adds focus and poise, underscoring its velvety elegance. We have decided to pair this with fresh crab, and all the fixings! The winesw taps you on the side of your glass and reminds you you DO indeed need another glass! now on to the 2014 Dutton Ranch! 2014 Russian River Valley Chardonnay
The phenomenal 2014 growing season yielded a standout expression of Dutton Ranch Chardonnay with all of the lush, alluring flavors and exquisitely balanced acidity that we love about this site. Heirloom clone aromas of white flowers and jasmine are soon followed by exotic layers of mango and papaya, as well as notes of green apple and toasted hazelnut. On the palate, the dramatic flavors are knit together by a dusty textural note from the lees stirring that adds nuance and structure. Overall, this is a profoundly textural wine that captures both the charm and complexity of some of Sonoma County’s oldest Chardonnay vines. I have tried both wines with the fresh Crab and the wines want me to make crab...many ways. The wines add to each bite of the crab, and further my thoughts to make a beautiful crab salad and a baked crab dish...Which is in the oven. Both wines are superstars,as are all the folks at Patz and Hall.Have a GREAT weekend, and enjoy the bottles on your table.!Cheers!
