Walt Wines/Brown Ranch/The Corners/Pinot Noir Perfection

I recently opened a couple new releases from Walt Wines.they source fruit from many growing regions, and the results are amazing. first let's look at the tasting notes for these wines. Starting with 2014 WALT "The Corners" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir The Corners Pinot Noir displays warm aromatics of five spice, ripe blue fruit, and black cherry. Roasted stems bring a streamlined and focused quality to the mouthfeel. The palate is smooth with dark berry character, interlaced with warm spicy barrel leading into a sweet lingering finish. I have traveled into Anderson valley for years, and see a migration of California's best wineries to some how include vineyards and wines from Anderson valley.the entire valley extends only 10 to 12 miles but it comes back to location, location, and oh yeah...location. Vintners Kathryn Walt Hall and Craig Hall of both Walt and Hall family wine industry fame own WALT Wines. They began in 2009 as an idea to get back to their grape-growing and winemaking roots that date back to the early 1970s. Kathryn Hall and her family have been grape growers in Mendocino County since 1972. The Walt family owns 63 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Zinfandel and Sauvignon Blanc in the Redwood Valley and has sold their grapes to wineries such as Fetzer, Parducci and Beringer. Kathryn managed the family vineyard from 1982 to 1992. WALT is primarily known for its Pinot Noir and produces ten different Pinot Noirs from the following appellations: Sonoma County, Anderson Valley, Sta. Rita Hills, and the Willamette Valley. If you love Pinot Noir, and I do...you will notice that Walt Wines has not left any premiere growing region out of their portfolio.'The Corners"2014 Pinot Noir, hails from the Boonville region, in the southeast corner of the Anderson Valley appellation. Those familiar with the area would recognize the vineyard, which sits in the hillsides across from the fairgrounds. As we tasted through our vineyard sources during the blending process, we were blown away by the extraordinary quality of this wine and were compelled to showcase it as a single vineyard bottling.I love the town of Boonville for many reasons. The Boonville Hotel is a must when visiting this superstar growing region,on the rise. Our second wine we are opening today is the Pinot Noir,Brown Ranch from Walt Wines. This wine is from Carneros/Napa valley.Carneros is another elite growing region, featuring the best in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. A rich garnet color in the glass, this wine exudes lavish ripe red jam on the nose, with accompanying spice notes of clove, nutmeg, fennel root beer, and caramelized pecans. The generous palate is layered with bright acidity and dense fruit up front, progressing to a silky warm mid-palate with hints of minerality on the finish. The list of growers and wineries that produce from this area, are basically "Who is who".Long term relationships with vineyard owners and people who just love Pinot Noir, seek out this growing region. This wine will age incredibility, and is near perfection now.So the choice is yours...I would try one and then wait 6 months and try again. Also within that 6 months...buy another case,or at least 6.Hide those for your future feast in which you will need Pinot Noir perfection. For now I'm very excited to have opened these bottles and now the anticipation of great dishes to pair with each wine!Cheers!
