Foursight Wines/Kristy Charles/ New Releases/Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Festival
Each year Anderson valley opens up the entire valley and celebrates the Pinot Noir Festival. All the wineries open their new releases and it's a perfect time to visit this fabled grape growing region.kristy Charles and Foursight Wines in right in the middle of that event, and we have a great new feature with her!We will open her Pinot Noirs and talk about this very special event.first we will tell you of her winery and look at the tasting notes for her four Pinot Noirs. Anderson Valley is a Region 1 growing area - the coolest where grapes can be commercially grown. Located approximately 115 miles north of San Francisco and 10-15 miles from the ocean, days in Anderson Valley are warm and sunny while nights and mornings are often cool and foggy. This allows wine grapes to mature slowly and develop full varietal character. Winter lows can be in the 20's or 30's while summer highs can reach into the 80's to 100's. The valley floor is 16 miles long and ranges from less than 1/2 mile to about 1-1/2 miles wide. It is surrounded on three sides by rolling hills and low mountains (2,000 to 3,000 feet in elevation) and opens to the Pacific Ocean via the Navarro River canyon. We will start with the 2015 ZERO NEW OAK PINOT NOIR . The "Zero New Oak" bottling is our most traditional wine in its use of all older French oak barrels. Yet, for the California wine market, it's a bit anti-establishment to produce a Pinot Noir that focuses only on the purity of our estate-grown fruit, without any oak to mask the expression of our site.
This wine was grown and crafted by our family, on our five-generation estate. It was fermented with wild yeast and wild ML with 20% whole clusters, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Full of beautiful cherry/berry fruit, this is an elegant wine that pairs with almost any cuisine. Next we will open the 2015 CHARLES VINEYARD PINOT NOIR . This wine is their flagship bottling, features the gorgeous, red fruit from our estate vineyard with a little toasty oak. A combination of all four blocks of Pinot Noir that we grow, it's approachable now, but also stunning with time in the cellar. The 2016 Clone 05 is classicly Anderson Valley -- elegant, yet with that pleasurable fruit we expect from Pommard Clone of Pinot Noir. Grown on our estate vineyard, the Charles Vineyard, and selected from just one block, this wine is fermented with wild yeast and wild ML, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
This vintage clocks in at 13.9% alcohol, and will be one of our top picks to lay down for the cellar. we will now open the 2016 PARABOLL PINOT NOIR . This luscious yet balanced wine is a stand-out from the 2016 vintage. Ripened longer on the vine than our other releases, it's aged in a portion of heavy toast French oak. Great for a stand-alone glass of wine after a long day at the office, or for pairing with more robust dishes.
The 2016 vintage was the end of the California drought, and brought balance back to our vineyard. We look forward to all the releases from this growing season. It's a very hot day here and we will now step inside the tasting room and enjoy our new feature on these beautiful Pinot Noirs from Foursight wines.Cheers!
