Handley Cellars/Sparkling Wines/Anderson Valley/Wine Master Randy Schock

It's hard to not get very excited every time I turn into Handley Cellars and stay for a couple days.I recently got to travel into the Anderson Valley for the Pinot Noir Festival. My features with Randy Shock have become some of the best I produce. This feature was just a matter of introducing Randy Shock and listening to this winemaker speak of his passion for this wine program and Handley Cellars.Straight from the heart!we have two sparkling wines to tell you about and please consider adding these wines to your cellar, because they are world class. We will tell you a little bit about Handley Cellars and check out the tasting notes, and then pour you a glass of BUBBLES from Handley Cellars. Handley Cellars is a small family-owned winery in California’s Mendocino County. Bonded in 1982, we produce around 12,000 cases of wine a year. Our quality starts with our Estate Vineyards in Anderson Valley. We are located at the northwest end of the Anderson Valley on 59 acres of the original Holmes Ranch. Still standing on the property are the now-refurbished ranch house, barn, and the original water tower. At Handley Cellars, we offer a wide variety of wines that complement today’s diverse cuisines. Founding Winemaker Milla Handley sought to make balanced wines that possess distinctive varietal characteristics, wines that reflect the soil and climate in which they were grown. Handley’s beautiful tasting room is located 6 miles northwest of Philo, California, on Highway 128. We offer tours by appointment, and our garden courtyard is open for picnics. Stop by to try our selections and, while visiting, enjoy our unique display of folk art collected from around the world. Handley Cellars completed the CCOF Organic certification process for grape growing in 2005, because we believe that this helps minimize our impact on the environment and creates a healthy workplace for our employees. We’ve taken additional steps to support environmental conservation at Handley, which include running the winery on 75 percent solar powered electricity, installing an EV charging station onsite for our guests, and using non-toxic products in all possible aspects of running the winery. Before your next visit to our winery, please call ahead and request a tour of the Estate Vineyard. We have 2 sparkling wines open and I think it's time for some BUBBLES! The sparkling wine contains grapes sourced from our CCOF certified organic estate vineyard. It is comprised of 100% Chardonnay selected from our block 3B planted in 1987 with cuttings selected from Ordway Valley Foothills Vineyard. These were some of the first vines planted in Anderson Valley and some of the first vines planted on the Handley Estate property. Anderson Valley was a relatively unknown wine region at the time so Milla Handley sought out plant material that was already proven to succeed here. These older vines have leaf roll virus and are planted in a cold spot on the valley floor exposed to afternoon winds. These combined factors delay sugar accumulation and maintain acidity while developing ripe fruit characters making them ideal for making sparkling wine. The 2015 BLANC DE BLANCS ESTATE VINEYARD ANDERSON VALLEY is a very special sparkling wine and one of the best to be produced from Anderson Valley. We also will pour you a glass of the 2016 Estate Brut Rose Sparkling Wine!this wine was just released and takes this program to yet another level of perfection!Congrats to Handley Cellars and to their very talented winemaker Mr. Randy Shock! Please click on the link and listen to this great feature with Randy, and make sure you order or pickup some of these baeutiful wines from Handley Cellars!
